What’s in my everyday makeup bag?

For my first real post I thought I’d start with something simple: my everyday makeup bag.

As a self confessed beauty lover I wear makeup most days, however, unless it’s a special occasion, my makeup looks remains pretty similar and simple on most days. Here’s a look at what I put on my face and carry around with me on a day to day basis.

The makeup bag itself is a real oldie, its Marc by Marc Jacobs and I’ve had it for about five years, but it’s still going strong and I love the style of it it, and as they say don’t fix it if it ain’t broke, so I’m sticking with it for now!

The first product I start with to ensure that my make up actually lasts throughout the day is Benefit Porefessional primer.

I’ve always been skeptical of primers, and I decided that this one would be the first I would try, a great tip of mine is if you’re unsure as to whether you’re going to like a product enough to buy the full size, start by buying the travel size version if there’s one available, they’re always cheaper, but more often than not, they have plenty of product in to allow you to get your bearings and make a decision on whether you’ll be purchasing the full size. Personally, I love Porefessional and will most definitely be buying the full size when this one runs out; it’s got a silicone feel, as many primers do, however I feel as though it really blurs the skin and minimises the appearance of pores and other imperfections that may otherwise creep through your foundation. On top of this, it also makes my base products last SO much longer; I’m a combination skin gal so really struggle with oiliness throughout the day in some places, but also have really dry patches. I found that this primer kept the oil places matte for longer, but didn’t draw attention to the dry areas.

Next up are my holy grail base products, Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation, NARS Creamy Concealer in the shade Vanilla and MAC Mineralised Skin Finish Natural in medium. I swear by all three of these products and very rarely use anything else for my base; the Ultra HD Foundation provides medium coverage, but doesn’t leave the skin feeling heavy and caked in makeup, when used alongside the NARS concealer to get rid of those pesky under eye bags, the skin looks flawless and smooth. To top it all off, I dust the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural all over my T- zone and the areas that I find start to shine as the day goes on.

Once the base products are done, I move onto blush, bronzer and highlight to put dimension and colour back into the face, as you can see from the well loved and slightly battered appearance of the Illamasqua Creme Blush in the shade Promise, I SWEAR by these products! I apply the blush lightly to the apples of my cheeks, dust the cult favourite Benefit Hoola Bronzer into the hollows of my cheeks, to accentuate my cheekbones and round my hairline to add some warmth into my face. To finish it all off I apply Benefit Wats Up Highlighter to high points of my face; the tops of my cheekbones, down the centre of my nose and my cupids bow to add light and a slight shimmer to my skin. I’m a HUGE highlighter fanatic (yep, I’m one of those Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter addicts) and love the Wats Up Highlighter for an everyday shine and glow.

The penultimate stage of my everyday routine is the eyes. I’m not a big eye person and so keep it pretty simple day to day. This brings me on to another holy grail product of mine, the Maybelline 24hr Gel Liner, I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! I’m a huge winged eyeliner wearer and this is hands down the best product I have ever used to achieve the perfect wing (I apply it with the MAC 266 small angled brush). For mascara I’m not so picky, I mix and match my mascaras all the time and am yet to find one that ticks all the boxes, but currently I’m using the Maybelline Lash Sensational and I’m really getting along with it well.

To top it all off, I always carry around a simple nude lip colour of some description. Even if I don’t apply it first thing in the morning when I do the rest of my makeup, I find that if my  makeup begins to look a little flat and worn throughout the day, adding a simple and subtle lip colour can really re-injectsome spice into your look. The lip colour I found in my makeup bag today was Tom Ford 07 Pink Dusk, a beautiful pinky nude, with a slight shimmer.

I really hope you enjoyed this first post and having a snoop around my makeup bag! A new post will be up on Wednesday, but until then I hope you all have a great start to the week!

Hello!

Hello all,

welcome to Mars Bébé, this is my new home in the bloggersphere! My name is Connie and I’m 17 (very soon to be 18) years old, I live in London, England.

I’ve had various other blogs in the past so I kind of know how the blogging thing works, however, I’ve never felt completely dedicated to and comfortable with the previous sites I’ve had, so I’ve decided to take on a new venture in 2016, new year, new blog eh!

Mars Bébé, translates to March baby, and yes you’ve probably guessed it, I’m a march baby myself and I love the sound of the French language so it seemed like the perfect name for this new blog. Mars Bébé will be made up of everything I love in life, from lifestyle, fashion and beauty to food and regular appearances from my beloved jack russell terrier, Biscuit.

I really hope you enjoy coming along on the Mars Bébé journey with me and I can’t wait for what’s to come!
